Central England Fibershed was founded in the spring of 2024 by Annie and Sarah, two passionate advocates for sustainable textiles. Recognizing that parts of England were still not covered by the Fibershed network, they joined forces to create an affiliate that would bridge these gaps. Their mission is to promote soil-to-soil regeneration, fostering a community-driven movement that brings together local farmers, crafters, designers, and consumers. One of the most significant achievements of Central England Fibershed is its success in ensuring that every county in the UK now has direct access to a Fibershed. This expansion marks a crucial step in promoting local, sustainable textile practices across the entire country.
I came across Fibreshed while trying to connect with like minded. I soon realised how much their principles, values and direction of promoting and enhancing the benefits of using natural materials, aligned with mine.
Sarah Jones, co-founder of Central England Fibershed
As a new affiliate, Central England Fibershed is already laying the groundwork for a vibrant regional network. The team has redesigned their logo to reflect their new identity and has begun actively engaging with the community through social media. The primary focus at present is on developing a comprehensive website that will serve as a hub for connecting collaborators and sharing resources. Once established, the website will feature a regional map and help facilitate both virtual and in-person gatherings. Looking ahead, Central England Fibershed aims to build a strong, interconnected community that supports local wool and fiber production. By fostering collaboration and encouraging the use of natural materials, Annie and Sarah are dedicated to revitalising traditional skills and promoting a sustainable future for the textile industry in Central England.
