Ebook – Dutch Wool Value Chain 2025, by Mariana Anacleto

The collective awareness of the many uses of wool and the ecological potential of sheep is growing in the Netherlands, with new entrepreneurs and volunteer projects joining this landscape every year. However, their circular and innovative efforts lack real external support due to insufficient infrastructure for value-chain collaboration and limited knowledge-support from the local academic community.

During her masters in Environment and Resource Management (VU Amsterdam), Mariana Anacleto mapped the entire value chain for Dutch wool and its bottlenecks to create a basis for future research and business development.  The result was a circular diagram of 160+ companies and organizations across several sectors, and a new business model for medium-scale wool scouring, currently not existing in the Netherlands. The research findings highlight the need for coordination and collaboration across the value chain, and the importance of building a network focused on local wool production, particularly at this stage of development.

E-book

This e-book summarizes the findings of the Dutch Wool value chain. It was launched during Toekomst Textiel, a series of events hosted by Fibershed NL during the Week van de Circulaire Economie.  By publishing this comprehensive visualization of the Dutch wool value chain, we hope to support procurement of Dutch wool, drive collaboration in this sector and its professionalization, and raise citizen awareness about high-quality local, circular products that can foster a deeper sense of place and contribute to economic prosperity. To access the links of each actor, download the e-book.
