Wales Fibershed

Fibreshed Wales is committed to building a cohesive network for fibre and dye artisans.

Founded in 2023 by Adrienne Titley, Fibreshed Wales is committed to building a cohesive network for fibre and dye artisans across Wales. Adrienne’s research background in textiles, especially on flax and wool, drives the affiliate’s mission to support local fibre production and connect artisans, researchers, and educators. Her work in exploring flax-linen processes for Welsh education is a key part of the initiative, which aims to revive and utilise Welsh natural fibres. Recently, Fibreshed Wales earned commendation in sustainable business for its efforts. “Wales has a wealth of talented individuals who deserve visibility and a platform to share knowledge,” says Adrienne.

Fibreshed Wales, founded in March 2023 by researcher and textile specialist Adrienne Titley, focuses on creating a connected community for Welsh fibre and dye artisans. Adrienne’s work in natural fibres began with a thesis examining the potential benefits of establishing a natural fibre and dye network across Wales, recognising the need for a unified platform to support local talent. Her extensive research background—including a Master’s focused on the sustainable use of Welsh wool—has culminated in a PhD project that explores the educational potential of flax-linen production in Wales, a process rarely associated with the region yet rich in possibilities.

Fibreshed Wales has made an impact early on, recently earning a commendation in sustainable business for its dedication to fostering local fibre networks. With a commitment to strengthening Welsh textile traditions, Adrienne is excited to bring the affiliate’s vision to life. Her work with Fibreshed Wales seeks to bridge knowledge gaps, encourage sustainable practices, and promote the use of Welsh-grown fibres.

Looking ahead, Adrienne plans to engage with artisans, educators, and stakeholders to expand research, conduct workshops, and facilitate knowledge sharing. As Fibreshed Wales gains momentum, the affiliate is set to empower a community of Welsh fibre and dye enthusiasts, connecting them with resources and a network that will help them thrive.
